RHS ‘Plants for Pollinators’ initiative now in retail tools

Joy of Plants adds logo across their tools

Press Release

Nov 4, 2025

The RHS ‘Plants for Pollinators’ bright yellow bee logo is now automatically displayed for all applicable plants in Joy of Plants’ UK plant retail tools, including on Bed Cards and in their Plant Finder for staff phones, loyalty apps, websites and touchscreen Kiosks. This adds to the RHS ‘Award of Garden Merit’ logo which is also displayed in the tools.

The RHS ‘Plants for Pollinators’ initiative helps gardeners fight the decline in wild bees and other pollinators by identifying the garden flowers they can plant that support a wide variety of pollinating insects.

The RHS compiled the ‘Plants for Pollinators’ plant list using scientific evidence, their extensive experience and records of gardeners and bee keepers. The list was updated and relaunched in July 2025, following an extensive review that began in 2022.

Joy of Plants has added details of the RHS ‘Plants for Pollinators’ status to all plants in its extensive library of 17,000 UK plants, and updated its retail tools so that they automatically display the ‘Plants for Pollinators’ logo for applicable plants:

Terri Jones, Managing Director at Joy of Plants, said: “The ‘Plants for Pollinators’ bright yellow bee logo makes it really easy for garden centre customers to spot plants that benefit pollinators. We also know from client feedback that the presence of a bee logo by plants boosts their sales. So it made perfect sense for us to automatically add the ‘Plants for Pollinators’ logo to our bed cards and other retail tools. Using our bed cards with the logo next to plants will increase sales in the plant area.

“At Joy of Plants we’re really keen to support this RHS initiative. We know from the HTA’s recent “Value of Gardens” report that the UK’s domestic gardens equate to an area a fifth the size of Wales. And more than 50% of gardeners say they are interested in wildlife in their gardens. By helping retailers increase the number of pollinator-friendly plants they sell, we’re playing our part in making UK gardens a richer habitat for pollinating insects, benefitting all the other wildlife higher up the food chain too.

“We have a wide range of plant breeders and growers contributing information about their new plants every year to keep our library up-to-date. This includes the exclusive Walberton’s range from The Farplants Group recently added to the library, along with plants from many other leading suppliers such as Wyevale Nurseries, Seiont Nurseries, Kernock Park Plants (‘Proven Winners’), Whartons Roses and New Leaf Plants. We’ll apply the ‘Plants for Pollinators’ logo to all applicable plants, following the RHS guidelines and criteria.

“Our Plant Finder for phones and touchscreen kiosks bring this information into stores, so that staff can help consumers choose exactly the right plants for them, and our Bed Cards convert browsing shoppers into buyers. We also now provide our plant & care info, including Care Product recommendations for each plant, inside retailers’ Loyalty Apps.”
