Description... This is often seen as a house plant or ground cover in tropical areas. It is found growing naturally In Ecuador, Peru and parts of Brazil, near the river Amazon. The leaves are large and broad with rounded ends. They are coloured a dark bronzed green with a bold pink tracery of major veins. The effect is lush and opulent. This will make spreading ground cover and will, if suited produce small white flowers. It needs a warm and humid site, protected from cold and draughts. It needs rich soil that is moist but well drained. This stands around 15cm (6in) in height with a 60cm (2ft) spread.

Planting your new plant
Water the plant thoroughly when you get it home, and plant out as soon as possible. Make the hole for the plant larger that the pot it is in and the same depth. When removing the plant from the pot, squeeze the sides of the pot to loosen it. Loosen the roots of the plant, put the plant in the hole spreading the roots to encourage them to grow outwards. Fill round the edges of the rootball with soil to the same level as the surrounding soil.
